If you’re suffering from chronic sinusitis then it may not be that easy to treat sinus inflammation. Acute sinusitis however usually doesn’t require any medication and is relieved from natural home remedies. Chronic sinusitis stays for months and often reoccurs easily. Doctors often find difficult to cure chronic sinusitis as the symptoms continue even after taking antibiotics. Some patients are prescribed decongestants along with antibiotic and some with steroid nasal sprays with antibiotics. However there may also be a problem with the structure of your nasal passage which results in recurrent sinus inflammation; or there may be a growth such as a polyp or cyst which can be treated with surgery.

Here are a few natural home remedies to relieve inflammation and other symptoms.

  1. This remedy has been used for centuries and is highly effective in relieving sinus inflammation. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil or tea tree oil in steaming water and inhale vapors in a towel tent. You can also add peppermint or apple cider vinegar instead. It is a very good decongestant and helps relieve inflammation and thins mucus.
  2. Make a mild salt solution by mixing 1 teaspoon sea salt in 1 cup warm water and either spray or add 2 drops in each nostril. Saline nasal sprays help in relieving congestion and to breathe easily.
  3. Hot peppers such as cayenne and jalapeno contain capsaicin which is great decongestant. Try to have some jalapeno peppers to drain mucus and relieve the pain.
  4. Apply hot compress over sinus areas to relieve sinus inflammation. Or stand under hot shower and let the hot water hit your sinuses.
  5. Vitamin A helps relieve inflammation and also heals the swollen mucus membranes. Include carrots and apricot in your daily diet.
  6. Regularly irrigate your nasal passage with a neti pot or any other sinus wash device. Make solution by mixing a pinch of sea salt in ¼ cup warm water, also add 4-5 drops of colloidal silver and liquid chlorophyll and pour this solution in one nostril in such a manner that it flows through the nasal passage and out of the other nostril. It not only relieves symptoms but also kills bacteria.
  7. Have plenty of fluids including 6-8 glasses of water, soup, broth.
  8. To strengthen your immune system and minimize inflammation, include vitamin C rich foods in your diet. Such as tomato soup, broccoli, freshly squeezed orange juice, red and green bell peppers.
  9. Consult an herbalist for the right dose and procedure to take some very effective herbs such as Bromelain, Echinacea, and Barberry. These have anti-inflammatory, antiviral and anti bacterial properties and are effective in easing symptoms.
  10. Keep your head elevated on a stack of pillows while sleeping. This not only helps to keep nasal passages open but also keeps sinuses from getting irritated and inflamed.

These natural remedies help in reliving sinus inflammation. However if you notice green discharge from your nose, fever, redness and puffiness around your eyes then consult your doctor immediately.
